Description
Thechapan
originally traces back to the Persian Chapan which means old, threadbare and run-down costume. Also the chagatai chapan itself from Persian-
Jobbe
, from Arabic -
Jubba
which means wrapper, cloak, coat, outer garment. It is a coat worn over clothes, usually during the cold winter months. This one is made of Bekasab which is a twill-woven fabric with silk warp and thick cotton weft, giving it a quilted feel and look. They come in many variations depending on the locality and custom/traditions. This one is a daily wear chapan from Uzbekistan. You will undoubtedly see these everywhere in the country. These chapans have no buttons, zippers or fastners and has no pockets. Once you put it on, the chapan will basically hang loose. The inside is lined with printed cotton fabric. Very authentic. Sizing and the fit can vary from our western standards and measurements, but we try to match it closely to American sizes. These chappans normally are snug at the chest and shoulder. Some people just let is hand on the shoulders with the sleeves hanging loosely over the shoulders and arms. Please purchase this item based on the approximate measurements below:
